Viki's understanding of ADHD

It means Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder 

Symptoms : - Lot of energy

                    - kids are more impulsive

Prognosis : - Children are having feeling that they are "terrible", that they "can not do anything"or that       "they are bad in everything" 

The Story of :Genie the Feral Child

Every child deserves to live a wonderful life,that includes: good & lovely family,medical & hygienic care,freedom and of course any type of education and general knowledge. Unfortunately there are some cases where these types of having a wonderful life are neglected. Like for example the case of Genie. 
A story of a small girl that was abused by her father for about 12 years. She was living in a small room with only a bed and a toilet. The most of the time she was spotted to a chair,so she was not even able to move. Her father was abusing her every time she tried to "say"something, so not that she couldn't move,had problems with seeing because of not being used to sunlight, she was also not able to speak. 
When she  was 13, a team of psychologists and language experts began the process of rehabilitating Genie.She was living with few foster parents but no one was taking the amount care of her she needed. Finally a famous psychologist,together with his wife took her and lived with her for about 4 years. Genies "teacher" was helping her to know the basic things, like recognizing colors or holding things. Genie was very shy,silent,incontinent and unable to chew. The only thing she was able to do was to recognize her own name and to say "sorry".  She made a huge progress right in the beginning of recovering and started to change and live from new on. The psychologists and doctors discovered this case for a very long time and after years of researching they asked themselves if Genie was not retarded from the day she was born. 

The Theory of Evolution

Darwin's theory of evolution started with the natural selection. When he thought that a mammal can turn into a whale. He used black bears as an example,becase they were able to swimt and catch food in the water. Few years later,scientists figured out that his theory was not wrong,he just choosed the wrong animal. He should choose instead of bears hippos or cows to make this experiment happen. 

His theory of evolution by natural selection is supported by lot of sources and that's why it is one of the best theories in the world. Natural selection is a process by which organisms change over time in physical or behavioral traits. These are very often changes that help organism to better adapt in its environment. 

 The physical and behavioral changes that make natural selection possible happen are based on the level of DNA and, ofcourse, genes. These changes are called mutations. Natural selection quides the evolutionary process by adding the good mutations and deleting the bad ones.  

Charles Darwin

He was an English naturalist and geologist,known for his theory of evolution. He was borned on February 12, 1809 and died 19. of April 1882.

His main point of his theory of evolution was that all living things are related and descendet from a common ancestor. This means that even though are genes are changed every generation,we do have lot of things common with our predecessors. 

Violence and it's biological and evolutionary causes

Violence is an issue that is growing every year more and more. One of the most common reasons of violence  is based on evolutionary and genetic causes.

Crimes of violence are overwhelmingly committed by men. In United States in 2002,there were 9,015 men arrested for murder compared to 1,092 women.In summarize,for violent crimes in the United States in 2002,men were almost five times more arrested than women.

One of the evolutionary causes is, as Darwin referred, the sexual selection.This theory says that males and females can select for characteristics of the other sex in population. This means for example that as females choose males to mate with,they are choosing the genetically influenced characteristics of those males,because those characteristics thus become more common in the population. Robert Trivers,also noted that "in the vas majority of species,the male's only contribution to the survival of his offspring is his sex cells.In these species,female contribution clearly exceeds male and by a large targio". This means that the sex that invests the least in offspring (males) will compete more intensely. Because in nature ( in this case animals) are males having a competition against each other and that's hoe the aggresion,risk taking and violence started.In this case,won the quantity over the quality. Comparing  this case to nowadays situation is very similar. There are two types of men. Dads and cads. Dads are the type of men who a female wants to see as the father of their children,because they want to invest heavily in parenthood. Cads are the men who are not inclined to make this investment beyond the donation of sperm. So guess whom does the females choose? Of course the dads. And who will have more conflicts and do more crimes? The cads...

The second cause of males being more violent and aggressive, is that they are often being jealous towards women. Males are jealous and they often start a fight with either other men or the exact woman.

The last cause I will introduce you are the genes. There are 4 examples of genes that does have an effect on violence. The first one is an unusual version of gene controlling an enzyme called monoamine oxidase,that helps break down important neurotransmitters.So this activity is implicated as a contribution to criminal behavior. The second is called dopamine,it's associated with pleasurable that people gain from having sex to using drugs.This means that people with increased amount of dopamine are often showing violence and are aggressive because of disability to handle alcohol and drugs. The third type of genes that influence neurotransmitter is serotonin.Low levels of of serotonin activity in brain is causing to irritability,gloom and violence.The last one is called Y-chromosome.It's producing testosterone and that's a hormone that is contributing physical aggression.

So as we could see, males are more prone to violence than are females and characteristics like violence and aggression can only be fully understood by considering genes and environment in their production.
